    Motto To Love-Ru (Episode 12):

After Haruna tells Lala she likes Rito, Lala freaks out in shock. Rito shows up as it is happening and Lala makes him fly off with an invention. Lala apologizes for not realizing Haruna’s feelings. Haruna tells her she didn’t want to keep secrets from her friend, and Lala is happy. Lala will cheer both of their loves on.

    Part 1 – I Love You 1

Mikado is treating a patient who lost his pet. Oshizu gets a call from Haruna to go to the pool, and goes to meet everyone there. Yami gives Rito the cold shoulder, and Mikan wonders if something happened. Lala and Haruna greet Rito. Rito ends up helping Yui inflate her float. Lala drags Rito to a high dive and he does a belly flop. Run and Kyoko are putting on a special stage show at the pool.

    Part 2 – I Love You 2

The principal jumps up to get Run and Kyoko’s attention, but suddenly the water comes to life. It tries to capture them, but Kyoko uses her flame and they run off. Rito is pondering how he has been able to talk to girls ever since Lala showed up. Momo appears below him and begins teasing him, but the water begins to molest her. Oshizu recognizes the water as the lost pet. Yami shows up to help fight it, but Haruna and Lala get swallowed up. Yami gets caught up trying to protect Mikan. Rito gets pissed and goes in for Lala and Haruna. He manages to get them out safely, but is now trapped himself. Nana explains to hit the nucleus in the body and Yami transforms into a mermaid and enters the monster. She damages the nucleus, and Lala cuts him out. Haruna and Lala pull him out of the pool.

    Part 3 – I Love You 3

Rito is talking to Lala afterward and is trying to talk to her about his feelings. He says he understands them now. He tells her that he likes her, and she celebrates. When he tries to tell her he likes someone else, she guesses it is Haruna and cheers even more. Lala rushes him to tell Haruna, so they can all three get married. Peke explains it is okay since his marriage to Lala would make him King of the Universe. She puts a jet pack on him, and he manages to grab onto Yami, who beats him up again. He ends up meeting up with Haruna. She thanks him for saving her. Oshizu tries to use her powers to help them, but manages to until her swimsuit. He finally blurts out that he likes her, but she ran off and everyone else is there instead. Lala claims that Rito likes everyone and they should all marry. When Haruna comes back, Lala says all three of them will be together.

What a crazy episode. I guess they felt they had to keep the three part format, but it was completely unnecessary and would have been better if they combined it without the breaks. A nice final episode to the season, that was mostly upbeat.

    Final Impressions:

The second season wasn’t what I was expecting at all. Instead of having a continuation of the first season by having full episodes with a consistent story, they decided to go with three separate parts each episode. This played out more like a 4koma manga adaptation, but managed to do it well.

The characters are all still here, and bring along Momo, Nana, and others that were seen in the OVAs. Rito is constantly overwhelmed by the girls around him and put in to bad positions. Lala is still overly happy and always vying for Rito’s attention. Haruna is still struggling to get her feelings out there most of the season. Yami is still my favorite with some very nice episodes of her that definitely bring out her moe factor. And be rest assured, if you loved other characters more, most of them get their fair share of screen time and parts.

The second season continues the wacky circumstances Rito is always cursed getting in to, the crazy humor that is a result, and never skimps on the fan-service. If you didn’t like the first season, or just thought it was okay, there isn’t going to be anything here to improve your opinion. If you were a big fan of the original season and OVAs, there is no doubt you will come in and really enjoy Motto To Love-Ru like I did.
